Melanie Gilpin, PsyD Adults and Couples Psychotherapy

Professional Statement

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who enjoys working with individual adults and couples. If you are suffering you may feel like no one understands what you are going through. You may feel lost and alone. I believe that the powerful healing of good therapy lies in letting go of that which is not ours and embracing what is. I am told I am thoughtful, kind, and intuitive. Using empathy and intuition to guide me I approach therapy from a psychodynamic lens and a belief in dream work to heal core issues. Over the years, working with my own dreams and those of others I have discovered they have practical applications. By bringing attention to the unique and specific issues the psyche wishes to address, dreams may offer insight into physical symptoms, hint at solutions to problems, and shine fresh light on relationships with others. Know that you need not be a dreamer per se to work with me, but should a dream pop up, together we will try to make sense of it. My approach with couples is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which enhances openness, attunement, and responsiveness to one another to promote effective communication and satisfying connection. I enjoy helping couples navigate the sometimes stormy waters of relationship by providing a place where they can speak frankly with each other. I welcome culturally and ethnically diverse clients. I completed a two-year predoctoral residency at The Community Institute for Psychotherapy in San Rafael working with individuals, couples, and at-risk children and adolescents. At my post-doctoral residency at the University of California, San Francisco I did brief therapy with medical professionals, faculty and staff and conducted mindfulness groups. As a middle-aged mother of two, I bring life experience, stability, and insight to the therapeutic encounter. I welcome you wherever you may be on your life’s journey.
