Dr. Kevin W. Choi (he/him/his) is a licensed psychologist and received his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. Prior to joining Psychiatric Alternatives and Wellness Center (PAWC), Dr. Choi completed his postdoctoral fellowship at California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM). He has experience with providing individual and group psychotherapy services to adults from culturally diverse backgrounds in university counseling centers and community mental health clinics. Dr. Choi’s clinical approach to psychological wellness is informed by his training and interests in feminist-multicultural, interpersonal, client-centered, and contextual behavioral (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) frameworks. Dr. Choi is committed to consciousness raising for himself as well as those with whom he has the privilege to work with. He is committed to being an ally to those with marginalized status by attending to the impact of power, gender, and culture on their personal growth, development, and interpersonal styles. Dr. Choi firmly believes in the power of healing through relationships and that people have the ability to heal from their pain and to grow in the direction of their values when they are provided with a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment that fosters acceptance, authenticity, compassion, empowerment, and self-discovery. Some of Dr. Choi’s clinical areas of focus include anxiety, depression, first-generation college students, life transition, grief and loss, intersection of identities, men’s issues, relationship concerns, and stress management. In his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his pets and his loved ones, biking, reading, and gardening.
