Professional Statement

Dr. Heather Martin is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, families, and adults. Dr. Martin's orientation is predominantly psychodynamic. However, she tailors her approach to the individual needs of the client. In her work with children, Dr. Martin takes a child-centered approach, using modalities such as play or talk therapy to help the child express his or her feelings and experiences that are often difficult to put into words. Dr. Martin aims to help parents/caregivers understand their child's symptoms and behaviors while addressing and reducing distressing symptoms. Dr. Martin works collaboratively with caregivers to help them better understand the complex underlying dynamics that often make their child's needs difficult to discern. Dr. Martin helps caregivers to explore, reflect, and understand subtle misattunements that might be occurring and helps them to build and strengthen their confidence implementing effective interventions to support their child's emotional wellbeing. When working with adolescents and adults, Dr. Martin strives to help clients navigate life's complexities through exploration, reflection, and understanding. Dr. Martin works collaboratively with clients, helping them to understand the impact past experiences have on current circumstances and helps clients to develop effective coping strategies that will help them to navigate life's stressors.
