Professional Statement
Dr. Okamoto has worked in mental health settings for over 25 years as a therapist, supervisor, researcher, trainer, and mentor. Her past experiences include working in various community mental health clinics such as UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and CBT/DBT Clinic of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She also completed a two-year postdoctoral residency working with homeless, frequently incarcerated, and involuntarily hospitalized populations. Prior to her career in the United States, Dr. Okamoto led a psychology department at Viljandi Hospital in Estonia. In collaboration with the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Research Unit, Dr. Okamoto has authored publications on the therapeutic relationship, and alliance and rupture repair in cognitive behavioral therapy. Dr. Okamoto serves as the president of the Santa Barbara Psychological Association for 2023.
